The Jaisalmer Fort in Rajasthan has become the first inhabited monument to have been declared a World Heritage Monument by UNESCO. The fort is the second Rajasthan monument after Jantar Mantar to have been accorded world heritage status. It therefore requires more attention as many people reside in its compound. The fort constructed in 1156, was the only one in the country to house royal families and common folks together. It is popular all over the world for its architecture. At least 450 families still reside in the fort complex.
